Major Cacnio Collaborative Works is Fitting Finale to Rockwell Focus on the Arts Festival

Power Plant Mall in Rockwell in partnership with Galerie Joaquin, continues its annual “Focus on the Arts: Art Through the Senses” with a unique exhibition of collaborative works by sculptor Michael Cacnio at the North Court, which will run from Monday, July 25, 2016 to Sunday, July 31, 2016. In the exhibition, Cacnio integrates works by some of the biggest names in Philippine art in his sculptures - Presidential Medal of Merit Awardee Juvenal Sanso, National Artist Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, renowned Modernist Angel Cacnio, and character painter Dominic Rubio – in an exhibition entitled “DualInspirations,” These works represent a major phase in the career of this noted sculptor, whose mastery of brass and bronze as a medium re-defined what can be done with folk Filipiniana genre imagery. A graduate of the Fine Arts Program of the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines, Michael Cacnio has forged one of the most sought-after and critically acclaimed practices in the country today. Having had over 50 sold-out solo exhibitions in the US, Europe, and Asia, Cacnio’s candid depictions of tableaux scenes of Philippine genre has been noted by critics as representing the best of genre in sculptural form. The artist has achieved a fair measure of awards in his 26 years of sculpture, including the 2006 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM). In this exhibition, he takes works from such prominent heavyweights in art and integrates them in a fascinating combination of practices.

In partnership with Galerie Joaquin, the “Focus on the Arts” festival at Power Plant Mall has become a prominent annual feature in the art calendar. With this year’s aim for interactivity, Michael Cacnio’s “Dual Inspirations” exhibit will also feature a scaled replica of Dominic Rubio’s recently inaugurated mural at the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC. Shoppers can sit back and identify monuments and moments in history as they immerse themselves in the art. The artists themselves – Michael Cacnio, Angel Cacnio, Dominic Rubio, Juvenal Sanso and Christian Aguilar, the son of Federico Aguilar Alcuaz – will also be on-hand in a special meet-the-artist event on Sunday, July 31 at 4:00PM, also at the North Court.

Concurrent to “Dual Inspirations” at the North Court is a special exhibition, called “Whimsy” at the Basement Concourse area. The subject of whimsy can often evoke pleasant memories and conjure up a feeling of calm. Paintings of the fantastic, of dreams and the imagination, can uplift any room and bring a sense of joy and delight to a family. They take their owners on journeys and adventures far beyond the humdrum of everyday life. Artists participating in this special exhibition include Roel Obemio, Migs Villanueva, Omi Reyes, Francis Nacion, Carlo Ongchangco, Anthony Palo and Farley del Rosario.

Focus on the Arts: Art Through the Senses will run until Sunday, July 31, 2016. To know more about Power Plant Mall’s Focus on the Arts, visit the Facebook page (Power Plant Mall), Instagram and Twitter pages (@powerplantmall), or Galerie Joaquin at (632) 723-9418, or email info@galeriejoaquin.com.
