Kalayaan: 120 Years of Filipino Identity

Galerie Joaquin brings together thirteen (13) artists in “Kalayaan: 120 Years of Filipino Identity,” an exhibit presenting the various facets of patriotism in the Philippines. This show is part of The Podium’s celebration of the 120th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Galerie Joaquin will show a collection of works featuring a lineup of artists Averil Paras, Almer Moneda, Ann Moneda, Amador Barquilla, Benjie Mallari, Bernard Vista, J. Consunji, Jerry Morada, Joey Simsim, Jomar Delluba, Michael Cacnio, Juanito Torres, and Toym Imao.

These artists have looked into the nation's past and present to find inspiration. Several events have helped shape the way in which nationalism has helped develop their creative process. It is this theme that has become a factor that catalyzes these different artworks together with the need to expound on our identity as a people. Art has proved equally important to the articulation of nationalism in the Philippines as expressed by this distinguished group of artists.

This meaningful exhibit intends to link the artists’ personal works to a historical and cultural platform to help in encourage a discourse and an understanding of the people, events, and even symbols that have become part in the formation of the Republic.

“Kalayaan: 120 Years of Filipino Identity” will be on view from June 9 to 15, 2018 at the 2nd Level Atrium of The Podium Mall. Galerie Joaquin is located on the 3rd level of The Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
