“Tableau of Memories” by Alexander Calceta at Galerie Joaquin Podium

Show runs December 18 to 31

For “Tableau of Memories”, Alexander Calceta’s works are infused with symbolism of objects — organic and man-made — to explore the poetry of human lives and the world they live in. By focusing on objects and one’s relationship to them, Calceta presents a fresh vantage point from which to consider identity, place, time and memory. A beloved personal object retains the essence of the person who chose it, and the artist believes that these items have the power to contain, as well as reveal, the very shape of human lives.

For “Tableau of Memories”, Calceta selects objects that symbolize complex and perhaps contradictory aspects of his subjects’ inner selves and capture them in compositional arrangements to tell a story. Using color, light and shadow, he amplifies these seemingly mundane items into a work of art that reveals truths about the personal journeys of their owners.

The exhibit also serves as a meditation on the rewards of looking deeply. To understand the true essence of something, one must slow down, look and linger. Calceta’s painting practice is an act of devotion, a willingness to be fully awake and awakened. The artist believes that the reward is to perceive the transcendent beneath the surface of all things.

With each painting, Alexander Calceta aims for more than an accurate representation of form — he strives to reveal the spirit and underlying meaning in an object that is always present — if only the audience will take the time to look.

Alexander Calceta’s approach to his chosen medium of oil and acrylic paint is a blend of contemporary impressionism and traditional naturalism. Recently, Calceta explores other techniques and approach like those of modernism by experimenting and combining classic art into modern to create a fusion.

His art signature is X N D R, dropping the vowel letters of his name. The artist retains this signature for modern and fusion arts. However in classical approach of his works, he changes his art signature into a complete letter name of Xander.

Alexander Calceta is a self-taught artist. His works have been exhibited both locally and internationally. Calceta teaches painting in private tutorials and workshops.
