Eduardo Castrillo (b. 1942) is a sculptor famous for his large and prolific monuments--particularly the People's Power Monument along EDSA. A product of the Fine Arts program of the University of Santo Tomas, his decades-long artistic career has seen him become the face of Philippine sculpture, reaching numerous milestones throughout his career. His father, Santiago, was a master jeweler whose jewelry techniques eventually formed the crux of his son's metalworking techniques. Castrillo soon mastered the art of using pliable metals in his work, an ancient method reminiscent of pre-colonial metalworking techniques. Castrillo’s innovation was to eventually apply this age-old technique for large-scale projects. His subsequent career has seen him become one of the foremost Modernists of his generation.
